The SURF program is supported by several funders, including some that have specific fellowship eligibility requirements. A SURF selection committee will review each application to determine the best fit for one of these fellowships: Students interested in applying to any of the fellowship opportunities below should submit their application to SURF.

Hitchcock/Mofson Research Fellows

Sarles, Albree, and Amherst Dean of the Faculty Research Fellows
For first- and second-year students interested in lab or field research in biology, biochemistry/biophysics, chemistry, computer science, geology, mathematics, statistics, neuroscience, astronomy, or physics. Students working with any faculty member participating in the SURF program may be a Sarles, Albree, or DOF Fellow. Learn more about these funders.

Clare Boothe Luce Research Scholars
For women who have declared majors in a physical science: astronomy, biochemistry/biophysics (with focus on biophysics), chemisty (with focus on physical chemistry), geology, physics, computer science, or math & statistics. Clare Boothe Luce (CBL) Research Scholars receive a stipend for summer research that includes housing and meals allowance, and are paired with a faculty advisor. Research Scholars undertake either a: 1) 10 week summer experience, or 2) and 8 week summer experience plus 2 weeks of January term research. CBL Scholars need to be US citizens or permanent residents. Learn more about the CBL Program.
