Whether you participate in the European Society & Culture Program or the Music Program, you must take at least one course in the German language.  Students must receive credit through the University of Rochester, the school of record for IES.  No Amherst credit will be given for internships, though you are welcome to take them in addition to a regular course load.  Students are strongly encouraged to live in residence halls with Austrian and other international students.

The German department will not give credit for courses in the major; please consult with your major adviser if you are a German major.

None required, but advanced courses and direct enrollment at Universität Wien requires at least four college-level semesters of German or the equivalent.
