CIEE Shanghai: Accelerated Chinese Studies and China in the Global Context at East China Normal University

Shanghai, China

Students may enroll in the Accelerated Chinese Studies program or the China in the Global Context program.  Students will not receive credit for the required "Chinese Language and Culture Practicum" and must take an additional course in order to receive  a full semester's worth of Amherst credit.   Students will only receive credit for programs and courses that fall within the liberal arts; no credit will be given for business programs or courses and internships.  Students are strongly encouraged to live with host families or with Chinese roommates.  Hosted by East China Normal University.

You must receive credit from Spelman College, the school of record for CIEE.

The is a required one-month orientation to prepare students for the challenges of rigorous academic work in a foreign language and culture.  Amherst students will not receive credit for the orientation course, and must take at least 15 semester credit hours of courses when they directly enroll at the Universidad de Costa Rica.  Spanish majors may receive credit in the major, see the department website for more information.  Only this advanced language program is approved.
