Amherst-Doshisha Fall Exchange Program

Kyoto, Japan

Doshisha University will guarantee scholarships for two Amherst students to spend the fall semester at Doshisha.  The scholarship grants the following:

  • Tuition and housing for the fall semester (includes the accommodation entrance fee)
  • 80,000 yen per month (for up to six months)

Students are responsible for airfare, meals, additional personal expenses.  Applicants may also apply for the "JASSO International Student Scholarship for Short-term Study in Japan" (JASSO - Japan Student Services Organization). This scholarship grants 80,000 yen per month for up to six months as well as a one-time relocation allowance of 80,000 yen. If an Amherst College student receives the JASSO Scholarship, he/she is not eligible for the Doshisha Scholarship anymore, but will still receive tuition and accommodation free from Doshisha University.

Program dates are September 15, 2015 through January 15, 2016. All exchange students are expected to participate in orientation. (Exact end date to be determined once Amherst's academic calendar is set. Students will have at least one week prior to the start of Amherst's spring semester.)  The typical fall calendar at Doshisha runs through April; however, alternative assessments will be given to Amherst students in order for them to return in time for the start of Amherst's spring semester.  The last day of exams approximately a week before the Amherst spring semester begins.
