IES Argentina: Latin American Societies & Cultures (petition)

ACM Costa Rica

No credit is awarded for the Community Engagement course, but we have arranged with ACM for Amherst students to take an independent study in its place. Amherst prefers and encourages students to take as many courses as possible in Spanish if they are able.

As an affiliate institution of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest for the Costa Rica program, Amherst students receive a 5% discount.  See "About Us" for more information on affiliation.

Fall program: Community Engagement in Public Health, Education, & the Environment, students with advanced Spanish (5 semesters or more at the college-level) may enroll in the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR)

Hosted by Humboldt Universität, Freie Universität and Technische Universität.  Both the Language & Area Studies and Metropolitan Studies programs are approved for Amherst College credit.  IES allows direct enrollment at the host universities as well as IES-taught courses.  Amherst strongly encourages you to take courses at one or both of the host universities.

Students must receive credit through the University of Rochester, the school of record for IES.  Students are welcome to participate in the internship program but will not receive credit for the course.

Syracuse University in Poland (petition)

SU Abroad's program in Wroclaw, Poland, The Culture and Politics of Reconciliation, is a fall-only program in Central Europe that allows students to take courses and complete an individual research project. There is a two-week, required signature seminar prior to the start of the regular semester whereby students travel with their faculty to urban and rural spaces of Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, and Lithuania.
