ISA at University of Cape Town

Amherst applicants to Interstudy/ISA programs in South Africa do not need to pay the application fee. Rather, students must pay a $200 confirmation deposit upon acceptance. Apply online via a special page for applicants where the application deposit is waived. 

Amherst expects students to take at least one language course while on the program.

Smith in Geneva

Students must take a full course load during the semester.  Students may only receive credit for track B.  Students with less than four semesters of French must petition the faculty Committee on International Education to attend the program.  We encourage students to participate in the internship program, it is an excellent way to be immersed in Swiss life.  However, no credit is awarded for the internship (and therefore Track A is not approved). Concurrent with Amherst policy, no credit is awarded for orientation courses even if required by the program.

University of Oxford: Center for Medieval & Renaissance Studies

Oxford, England

The Center for Medieval & Renaissance Studies is associated with Keble College at the University of Oxford. Students studying at CMRS, Oxford and are associate members of Keble College. Unlike direct enrollment, students take tutorials as well as an integrated seminar course during the semester. As expected, students can study various subjects in English, but also history, philosophy, religion, gender studies, and classics.

Please note that this program follows the U.S. academic calendar and runs each semester rather than the trimester system common to Oxford. Students take tutorials with faculty at Keble and other colleges at Oxford and the integrated seminar is with other program students.

Dance Jerusalem at Hebrew University

Jerusalem, Israel

Students take courses at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and at the Rothberg International School at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 

The program is fall-only (with the semester ending in early January) or students may go for the full academic year.  The required Ulpan course, held prior to the start of the semester, is not creditable at Amherst since the College does not award credit for orientation courses.  Students must take a full schedule of courses during the semester or year.  Amherst expects students to take a language class (or class taught in Hebrew or Arabic) as one of their program courses.

Syracuse University in Strasbourg

This program will be of particular interest to students who would like to study the following:  the European Union, international affairs, human rights, and music performance (through a partnership with the Strasbourg Conservatory).  Only the advanced programs (options II and III) are approved for credit.  If you are interested in option I you will need to petition the Committee on International Education.

Concurrent with Amherst policy, students will not receive credit for the orientation course, "European Identity Seminar."   Students will not receive credit for the internship course, but are encouraged to participate if interested.

Cornell in Rome - Liberal Studies

Rome, Italy

The only track approved for Amherst College credit open to non-Cornell student is the Liberal Studies in Rome.  Students have the option to choose courses in art history, architecture history, Italian, drawing, Italian cinema, and photography.  Students attending the spring semester may be able to choose courses from urban studies so long as they fall within the liberal arts.

Students are expected to take an Italian class as one of their courses on the program.
