This course will consider the place of power and justice in political life. Politics without power is unthinkable; politics without justice seems all too prevalent. In our exploration of power and justice we will address the following questions: What do we mean when we talk about power? Is there a distinctive morality to political life that elevates the power and denigrates justice? Is there a morally significant difference in the way we think about power and justice when we move from designing policy and respecting “reasons of state” to the judgment of particular individuals?
