I am fortunate to be able to teach what I am most passionate about: genetics. In the introductory biology course, Molecules, Genes, and Cells (Biology 19) I aim to bring students a solid picture of the fundamental concepts of molecular and classical genetics, equipping them with enough detail to inspire them to question further and push the limits of their own curiosity and understanding. In Genetic Analysis of Biological Processes (Biology 24) I have the luxury of spending an entire semester dragging students down with me into the trenches of genetic research and the process of scientific discovery. In this course my aim is to teach students how genetic analysis is used to tackle fundamental questions in biology, and I do this by forcing them to become intimately involved in a semester-long genetic quest to understand the yeast mating process. I have also participated in the teaching of Developmental Biology, Seminar in Developmental Genetics, and the first-year seminar Gender and Science.
