Dear Students,

We are aware that students in the Chicago public school system are being seriously affected by the ongoing strike. Because the labor action includes school counselors and support staff, as well as teachers, it will likely have some impact on the processing and submission of school documents for students planning to apply for Early Decision or Spring Transfer admission by the standard November 1 deadline.

To support applicants who are encountering strike-related disruptions, we are offering a deadline extension until November 10 for the submission of teacher and counselor letters of recommendation, transcripts and other school-related application materials. Students should be certain, however, to submit their ED or Transfer application and Amherst Writing Supplement by the November 1 deadline.

We hope that this deadline extension will alleviate some of your concerns about the application process. Should you face extenuating circumstances that necessitate consideration beyond November 10, please contact us at admission@amherst.edu. We will consider such special requests on a case-by-case basis and will be as accommodating as possible, within the constraints of the overall Early Decision and Spring Transfer admission processes.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us, if you have any questions or concerns about the application process.

Sincerely,
Amherst College Office of Admission
