Visiting Student Program - Spring 2018

Eligibility

Students who have completed at least one year as a full-time student a U.S. college or university and who are currently enrolled as students in good standing are eligible to apply as Visiting Students at Amherst for spring semester attendance only. Admitted students must live on campus, complete four full-credit courses and confirm with their home institution that academic credits for their courses at Amherst will transfer. Students who have already earned a bachelor's degree are not eligible for participation in the Visiting Student program.

Applying

To apply for admission as a Visiting Student, you should submit your application materials by the December 1 deadline. (See "Application Materials" below.) You will be notified of our decision by mid-to-late December and, if admitted, you will need to reply to our offer promptly. Because Visiting Students are admitted on a space-available basis, it is not possible to defer an offer of admission to a later semester.

International Applicants: We welcome Visiting Students applications from international students who are currently enrolled in another U.S. college or university. Amherst requires any applicant whose first language is not English to submit test score results from either the TOEFL or IELTS with the following exceptions: TOEFL / IELTS results are not required of international students who have been enrolled in an English-based curriculum for the last four years or who have scored 730 or above on the EBRW section of the SAT or who have scored 32 or above on the Reading section of the ACT.

First-Year or Transfer Applicants: Students who wish to apply for admission to Amherst as first-year students should review information for First-Year Applicants. Students who wish to apply for admission to Amherst as transfer students should review information for Transfer Applicants. Please note that students who enroll as Visiting Students at Amherst are not eligible for subsequent transfer to Amherst.

Cost of Attendance

For the Spring 2019 semester, the basic cost of attendance will be approximately $35,583 (tuition, room & board: $35,130; student fees: $453). There will also be additional costs for books and supplies, personal expenses, and travel expenses that will vary by individual. Students enrolled at Amherst as Visiting Students are responsible for all costs associated with attendance. Amherst does not offer financial aid to Visiting Students. However, your home institution may allow you to apply your financial aid package to a semester of approved student at Amherst.
