Get to know and work with the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) during the summer! We are hiring one student for a full-time (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) position for summer 2014. The hourly pay rate is $10.50, and we'll cover the costs of your on-campus housing. The summer position includes overseeing the CCE's front desk and reception area, managing the budget and supplies for the Community Engagement Orientation Trip (CEOT) and providing administrative support to the CCE professional staff. This position is instrumental to the success of CEOT and will work closely with the student CEOT coordinators and CCE professional staff on this event. More information...

Native-Speaking Conversation Partners Needed for Fall 2014

Want to help someone learn your native language? The Five College Center for the Study of World Languages is looking for native speakers of less-commonly-studied languages to be conversation partners with the Five College Mentored and Supervised Language Programs. This is paid work (2-4 hours per week). It counts as on-campus employment for Amherst international students. No experience is necessary. We especially need speakers of Hungarian, Afrikaans, Danish, Dutch and Khmer, and will also consider applications in over 30 other languages. Biology Department Seeks Part-Time Student Greenhouse Assistant for the Summer

Part-time greenhouse assistant needed (1-2 hours per day on weekends, holidays and occasional weekdays, depending on staff vacation schedule). Responsibilities involve the general care of greenhouse plants in the teaching and research collections, including watering and occasional fertilizing and maintenance. Dependability is essential, as is the ability to work independently and follow protocols for the care of plants. Extensive knowledge of plants is not necessary, but students will be expected to develop a basic understanding of botanical terminology related to the position. Pay starts at $8.50 per hour. Student Callers Needed for Phonathon in June

First-years, sophomores and juniors: The Office of Development is hiring student callers for the Annual June Phonathon. Availability is required from 6 to 9 p.m. on the following evenings: Monday, June 16; Tuesday, June 17; Wednesday, June 18; Thursday, June 19; Monday, June 23; Tuesday, June 24; Wednesday, June 25; Thursday, June 26; and Monday, June 30. Dinner is provided each night! Responsibilities include building rapport with prospective donors, providing information about Amherst College and alumni events, obtaining gifts of monetary support, updating prospect information and keeping accurate records of all calls made. The Information Technology Department seeks a current Amherst College senior for the position of Information Technology Fellow ("Green Dean"). This is a one-year position that may be renewed for a second year. The Fellow reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and will be responsible for facilitating special projects and general operations of the department. The fellowship offers an excellent opportunity to learn about managing an IT organization. The position begins in July 2014. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 28. Certified TIPS (Bartending) Training for the Amherst Community

Are you looking for additional income? We are looking for TIPS-certified servers! Whenever alcohol is served on the Amherst College campus, it is necessary that it be served by a certified TIPS server (Training for Intervention Procedures). We have a severe shortage of servers, and we would like to expand our list so that we can offer more options for departmental gatherings, faculty receptions, Commencement parties, Reunion gatherings, etc. The training policy has just changed, and we can now accept the online certification for "On Premise" training at http://www.gettips.com/online/index.shtml. Once you have taken the online training, you will be issued a certificate good for three years. Please forward your certification information, including expiration date, to Carol Allman-Morton in Alumni and Parent Programs. You will receive a listing of Amherst College policies and procedures that you must read before serving on campus. We have a need for approximately 100 servers for Commencement parties (Classes of 2015, 2016 and 2017), and there are many departmental gatherings throughout the year that require servers. Art Department Prizes! Submission Deadline April 18

The Department of Art and the History of Art will offer up to three prizes this spring: 1. The Athanasios Demetrios Skouras Prize, given in memory of Athanasios Demetrios Skouras of the Class of 1936, is awarded to an Amherst College student who, in the opinion of the department, has created an outstanding work of art or architecture. 2. The Hasse Prize, established in memory of Adrian H. Hasse, Class of 1943, is awarded to an Amherst student for the best submitted work using the human figure as a theme. 3. The Anna Baker Heap Prize, established by Arnold N. Heap, Class of 1873, shall be given annually to that member of the senior class who shall write the best essay or dissertation on the subject of "Art." Submissions are due to Louise Beckett in Room 107 of Fayerweather Hall by Friday, April 18, no later than noon. More information...
