30th Reunion is Almost Here!

Dear Classmates,

Nearly three decades ago we walked across a hastily constructed stage in a hot, muggy gymnasium, one of the rare graduations forced inside by stormy weather.  The sun emerged in time for our first Valentine meal as alumni generally perceived as our last meal as students as the postgraduate reality was poorly understood.  We departed Amherst College on different paths in pursuit of our futures.  The futures we sought in May of 1981 are now past and part of our lives belongs to history.  The histories are rich and varied and it would be wonderful to see and hear all that has transpired for our class since our notable graduation.  Our class has one of the best attendance profiles in the history of the College, a reflection of the abiding friendships within our group. May 2011 represents an exciting opportunity to return to Amherst and enjoy a weekend of engagement with classmates and dear friends and their families.  We are striving to make it as much fun as the 25th where we had a record turnout.

We are deep into the planning stages for our 30th Reunion. Our reunion headquarters will be Porter, aka DU. The reunion calendar runs from the evening of Wednesday, May 25th to Sunday morning, May 29th with most of the activities scheduled Friday to Saturday night.  As a reminder this is Memorial Day weekend. The weekend calendar will be created for flexibility and will include plenty of time for conversation and re-engagement, athletic activities, entertainment (yes, we intend to have a "named band", one that will be familiar to many) and an educational program.  Also, we are now narrowing our decision on a speaker for our Saturday night banquet dinner.  More details will follow as the plans, people and programming are confirmed.

Amherst has gone digital since our 25th so you can now register online, see the most up-to-date schedule of events and pay for both class fees and on-campus housing with a credit card. If you prefer to pay with a check, please download and print this form or contact Alumni and Parent Programs at or 413-542-2313.

The class fee is $180 per registering alum, $100 for guest age 16 and older and free for children 15 and under. The class fee includes Friday night dinner and drinks; Saturday light breakfast, Saturday evening drinks/cocktails and banquet and Sunday light breakfast; the college provides Saturday lunch for reunion attendees. The fee also covers entertainment on both Friday and
Saturday evenings, costs for our class reunion tent, decorations, undergraduate assistants and a class souvenir. The fee schedule was established based upon the usual and customary for reunion events and was structured to encourage guests--the more the merrier.

Please register as soon as possible as the registrations will facilitate our planning and preparation.

We look forward to seeing everyone and making our 30th Reunion as enjoyable as the last one.image
