Max Suechting '11
Major at Amherst: English // Poetry & Improvisation
Current Job Title: Student; poet; musician; coffee fanatic.
My name is Max Suechting; I'm a writer, percussionist, and electronics musician, currently studying literature, critical theory, and improvisation at Amherst College. My teachers have included Bob Weiner, Jason Robinson, Bruce Diehl, Daniel Hall, Claire Arenius, and Ryan Korb. I grew up playing drums in a couple of well known Wisconsin punk bands, as well as performing professionally with a quartet starting at age 16, and both kinds of music have had a large effect on my playing today.
My musical interests are varied, but I spend the most time studying free improvisation, electroacoustic programming / improvisation, and 20th century classical music. Academically, I'm interested in the ways that race, class, and gender shape one's perception and experience, particularly in the arts.
I keep a blog (thought not very current, I'm afraid) at http://shorterfasterlouder.blogspot.com; you can follow me on Twitter as well, at http://twitter.com/struckbythewild.
