Since 1851, the college's Library’s Archives and Special Collections has amassed the physical history of Amherst in a collection split between vaults, shelves and an off-site bunker. Public Affairs’ Samuel Masinter ’04 spoke with Peter Nelson, assistant archivist, about the history of the history-keepers and the treasures they keep, including the most famous lock of hair at Amherst.
