Seniors Oscar Báez, a political science major, and Ryan Shields, a biology and sociology major, are two of just 50 undergraduates from institutions across the United States to receive Thomas J. Watson Fellowships for travel and independent study during the 2008-09 academic year. Since the Watson program’s founding 40 years ago, a total of 80 Amherst students have received the prestigious fellowships.
