Metals are essential nutrients, but paradoxically the chemical properties that make them useful can lead to detrimental effects. Professor Jeeyon Jeong will be speaking about how her research group at Amherst aims to unravel the delicate mechanisms of metal regulation at the molecular cellular level. Professor Jeong is an Assistant Professor in Biology and Program in Biochemistry and Biophysics at Amherst and teaches Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, and an Advanced Seminar in Biology of Metals.

Professor Jeong is joined by Aleks Merkovich '17, a recent graduate. Aleks majored in Biology and Psychology and eventually hopes to pursue an advanced degree in Genetic Counseling. He will talk about his academic and extracurricular pursuits while at Amherst, as well as his future interests.
