Joseph Martin is the Edward R. and Anne G. Lefler Professor of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School. Born and raised in rural Canada, Joe Martin ascended through medical school training and specializing in neurology to serve key roles in academic medicine. These included chair of neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital in the 1980s, dean and chancellor of the University of California at San Francisco, and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard University from 1997 to 2007. His recently published memoir is: Alfalfa to Ivy: Memoir of a Harvard Medical School Dean.
