In this powerful love triangle, a celebrated singer, a rebellious painter and a corrupt police chief engage in a deadly test of wills. Puccini's masterful melodrama features some of his most dramatic and lyrical music, including the heart-breaking "Vissi d'arte."

Music Director Nicola Luisotti, "one of his generation's most accomplished Puccini conductors" (Opera News), conducts a brilliant cast in this sexually charged, edge-of-your-seat thriller. Starring Patricia Racette, "a versatile, dramatically astute performer with a proven knack for Puccini" (The New York Times); Brian Jagde, lauded for his "beautiful singing, now nuanced, now ringing and forceful" (Washington Post); and Mark Delavan (Wotan in the Ring cycle, 2011), a singer of "ferocious power" (San Francisco Chronicle), will portray the malevolent Scarpia.

"I'm super excited about taking the Amherst group to hear Tosca - not only is it my favorite opera with my all-time favorite opera villain, but Patricia Racette is singing the role of Tosca. Anyone who saw her remarkable performances in Il Trittico (I saw it five times!!) knows that the girl can sing Puccini. We are in for a real treat!" - Thomas Cunningham '90
