In these three authors' most recent works, the idea of family is explored in all its glory and contradiction: Taylor's collection unravels the story of her ancestors, the Randolph Jeffersons, and their rich and troubling history; Riley's poems feature a single protagonist who straddles cultures; Falconer's new collection explores the bonds formed when a gay couple adopts their first child.
Tess Taylor's poetry and nonfiction have appeared in The Atlantic, Boston Review, Harvard Review, Literary Imagination, The Times Literary Supplement, and The New Yorker. She currently reviews poetry for NPR's All Things Considered and teaches writing at the University of California, Berkeley. The Forage House (Red Hen Press, 2013) is her first book, and will be featured on Amherst Reads in October 2013.
