75 Days to Graduation - Life Skills Event - Savvy Socializing Presentation
100 Days to Graduation is a series of programs for seniors, led by young alumni. There will be events on Finances, Life Skills, Life Choices and Communication. Both seniors and young alumni are invited to attend.
There will be four events throughout the 100 days, geared towards seniors - an event on or close to the 100th day to graduation (February 14), the 75th day to graduation (March 11), the 50th day to graduation (April 5) and the 25th day to graduation (April 30). The events will be held in the senior dorms, and we encourage young alumni who attend to stay and share their experiences with the seniors after the official talk is over.
The second event (75 days to graduation) in the 100 Days to Graduation Program will be a series of events on Life Skills.
Farm To Table
Sunday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Pond Dorm - Tobin Porter-Brown from the Book and Plow Farm will present the differences between packaged/prepared foods and fresh foods in terms of health, personal empowerment, finances, and community. Also, he will suggest a few basic tools and ingredients to be able to make meals from scratch.
Finding Your First Apartment
Monday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Lipton Hall - Philip Arthur Johnson '11, a licensed real estate salesperson at Citi Habitats in New York City, will discuss how to find your first apartment and what's involved in relocating to a city. Other items Philip will address are lease agreements, credit rating/price range, renter's insurance, a checklist of expenses/what you need before you move, what a landlord needs and information about the real estate market in general.
Tuesday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Wieland Hall - Merrilyn Lewis, associate director of the events management office at Smith College, will talk about how people are often challenged with the practical side of socializing. When starting a new job, you will be required to mix and mingle at large social events and professional conferences. This event will target specific areas that are often stumbling blocks for most people.
This program is being sponsored by Alumni and Parent Programs in coordination with the Career Center and the Dean of Students Office.
