Please register by Friday, April 24, 2015

Questions? Please contact Mike Miller, MDMiller@HealthPolCom.com.

Registration: Please register with the number of people you will be bringing, and indicate if you need or can help provide transportation - and if so from what general location, or what Metro station you could be picked up at. (Please also indicate if you will not be able to attend without transportation assistance.) When the registration date has passed, please contact Mike Miller, MDMiller@HealthPolCom.com, as late registration may be possible.

Volunteer Activities: There will be a variety of tasks available for various skill and comfort levels, including weeding, mulching, trellising, and harvesting.
What to Bring: We ask volunteers to please come prepared with a water bottle and bag lunch/snacks. Please do not bring pets to City Orchard. (You can also bring your favorite gardening gloves if you want.)

Attire: Volunteers are advised to wear: long sleeves and pants that can get dirty; comfortable, closed-toed shoes; and hats. Sunscreen is highly advised.
Waivers: You will need to complete two waivers to participate in City Orchard volunteer activities, one for Bread for the City, and one for the University of the District of Columbia. Both of the waivers will be emailed to you after you register.  Please complete and bring them with you.  If your group includes youth under 18, the youth will need to arrive to the orchard with both waivers completed and signed by a parent or guardian. If the waivers are not completed, the youth will not be able to participate in the volunteer activity.  All youth (under the age of 18) volunteers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Parking & Finding City Orchard's Entrance: You can park your vehicle near the greenhouses. You will see the greenhouses on your left directly after you drive through the second entrance gate. After parking, you will then need to walk to the entrance to City Orchard. City Orchard is a large fenced-in area. To find the entrance of City Orchard, you'll walk down the main road, which curves to the right. If you follow the curve, you'll see the entrance of City Orchard on your right.

Carpooling: If you are interested in carpooling - either needing a ride or offering a ride - (or getting picked up from a Metro station, e.g., Silver Spring), please indicate that in your registration comment section, and we will try (but not guarantee) to connect people with appropriate rides and riders. (People may also want to use the Williams DC Alumni Facebook page to connect for rides by commenting on the post about this event here: https://www.facebook.com/WilliamsAlumniDC?fref=nf)

Weather Cancellation Policy: If there is heavy rain or other inclement weather on the day of the event, Bread for the City will cancel the volunteer shift two hours in advance of the scheduled start time. You will be informed of this ASAP via email.
Bread for the City's 2.75 acre organic fruit orchard in Beltsville MD contains more than 2,500 trees and bushes, including apple, Asian pear, persimmon, blueberry, and blackberry. These plants will yield upwards of 45,000 lbs. of fresh fruit -- all for distribution to DC residents in need through Bread for the City's two food pantry locations.
