The Tradition

The 50th Reunion is the greatest class gathering at the college since graduation 50 years ago. It is a wonderful event, drawing back to Amherst not just regular reunion attendees, but also and importantly, many classmates who have not been back in years. All of this happens at a time in the year when the campus is at its most beautiful, and the weather usually cooperates in making the 50th Reunion a joyous and memorable experience.

The Weekend

Amherst's Alumni Holiday starts Wednesday evening with Amherst Holiday Receptions at the college museums.  Thursday is a day when faculty and other distinguished speakers address returning alumni. The 50th Reunion headquarters open Wednesday afternoon and will remain open until noon Sunday. Class-sponsored programs are scheduled on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. The class will have dinners at headquarters Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and a banquet Saturday night in Valentine.

Reunion Lodging

Many classmates will stay in headquarters or in a nearby college dormitory. Other classmates will stay in local hotels, B&Bs, or other lodging they have arranged.

The Class Book

One of the most popular souvenirs produced by the 50th Reunion Class is its 50th Reunion Book. Each classmate is asked to submit information about his life and thoughts to be included in this publication. These books are always fascinating. Mailed during the 50th Reunion year, the book is often the stimulus that brings classmates back to the reunion.

The 50th Reunion Gift

A remarkable number of Amherst alumni support the college every year, most making unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund. At their 50th Reunion, members of the class are asked to consider making their most significant lifetime gift to the Annual Fund and to consider other kinds of support, such as scholarship gifts, life income gifts (trusts and annuities), and estate gifts (bequests and beneficiary designations).  The 50th Reunion Gift includes all types of gifts given in the five years from the 46th through the 50th year, including pledges made during that period.
