Finance: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Six years after the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression, what is the state of financial markets and financial reform? Join us as a group of distinguished Amherst College alumni help us to answer these questions. Geoffrey R. Woglom, the Richard S. Volpert '56 Professor of Economics, will set the stage for some of today's leaders in finance to discuss the impact of financial reform in their sectors:

  • Asset Management: Kathryn Fulton '83, the managing director in the Government Relations and Public Policy Group of BlackRock, Inc..
  • Commercial Banking: Elizabeth T. Kelly '84, P'12, a funding and liquidity risk specialist within the Financial Institution Supervision division of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York
  • Investment Banking: Michael Smith '84 of the Corporate Finance Solutions Group within the Investment Banking Division of Goldman, Sachs & Co
  • Private Equity: Barry Volpert '81, P'14, CEO of Crestview Partners

The program will conclude with a panel discussion of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and its effect on almost every part of the nation's financial services industry.  No prior background in finance or economics is necessary.
