It [The Pale King] is the most recognizably human [book]. Six or seven people get educated, they all become IRS agents and then some of them become monsters, some of them become victims, and some of them become human.  We follow them over the course of 25 years.  In many ways it’s a traditional book.”

- Mark Costello

Mark Costello '84, a close friend of David Foster Wallace '85 since their years at Amherst, and Andy Parker, professor of English and professor to both Mark and David, sat down at Mark’s home in lower Manhattan on a warm summer day to discuss David's life and writing, the legacy he leaves behind, and the recent publication of his unfinished novel, The Pale King.
