There are a variety of ways in which alumni, parents and friends can be of service to students in their career development. These range from helping students understand more about certain career paths and sharing one's wisdom, to hosting students at one's place of work, to actively recruiting Amherst students for open positions within one's organization. We invite you to read the descriptions below for more information.
Career Services for Alumni
The Amherst College Career Center provides a variety of resources and services to support the career development of alumni.
Amherst Alumni Directory and Your Profile
The online Alumni Directory is a resource used by students and alumni to find and connect with Amherst alumni working in sectors of interest to them.
Keep your profile up to date, and be certain to fill out the Career Summary information on your Professional tab so students and alumni can contact you and learn from your experiences. For assistance, please contact Alumni & Parent Programs at firstname.lastname@example.org or 413.542.2313.
Pathways Alumni/Student Mentoring Program
The Pathways mentor program matches Amherst students with alumni mentors who are willing to provide students with advice about career exploration, navigating the Amherst landscape and how to bridge the gap from student life to post-grad life. Learn more about Pathways and register.
On-Campus Career Conversations
Come to campus and meet with students as a featured speaker in our Food for Thought or Doing Well by Doing Good series. These sessions give students an opportunity to hear information about your field of work and your personal career path, and advice for entering your field. You also could present at the Business Leadership Seminar, which is held each year in January and organized by the student-run Pre-Business Group. Please contact the Career Center at email@example.com or 413.542.2265.
Host Students at Your Work Site
Host students for a day, or host a networking reception for students who reside or are interning in your local area. Or, participate in the Amherst Select Internship Program (ASIP), a program jointly sponsored by the Career Center, the Center for Community Engagement and Alumni & Parent Programs. The program provides a comprehensive listing of challenging summer internships hosted by Amherst alumni, parents and friends of the College. Visit the Center for Community Engagement's Web site for more opportunities to get involved.
Job Shadowing, Informational Meetings and Recruiting Amherst Students
Amherst students enjoy discovering new potential career paths and our Career Center supports this exploration by encouraging informational meetings, job shadowing opportunities and other connections with alumni. The Career Center is eager to support your hiring needs and welcomes the opportunity to source talent for your organization. Alumni are our best resource, and we want to partner with you! Amherst College, Smith College, and Mount Holyoke College have integrated their recruiting services to provide you with a streamlined system for tapping into a vibrant pool of candidates from three schools.
Whether you're looking to conduct on-campus interviews, advertise an internship, or collect resumes for open positions, we can help. Use NACElink Symplicity to indicate your interest in offering internship or job postings, on-campus interviews, and/or information sessions. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Career Center at firstname.lastname@example.org or 413-542-2265.
