Charge

  • Review the many recommendations and appeals that have been made over time, including, but not limited to those that were generated by the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for Strategic Planning and the goals formulated by Amherst Uprising;
  • Assess what it will take and what forms of support would be necessary to implement various recommendations;
  • Recommend priorities and timelines for implementation on the basis of the review, taking available funding into account;
  • Oversee the development of measures of success and methods for evaluating impact;
  • Decide on a communications plan that will keep campus constituencies informed of the work of the task force. 

The composition of the committee will include: representation from key administrative offices with responsibility for implementation so we can ensure that there is accountability for the changes that are recommended and adopted (2); a member of the Multicultural Resource Center (1); a faculty member from the Committee of Six and one from the CEP and the CPR who will consult with other members of governance groups and bring back any decisions that need to be made by those groups (3); representation from among students who have been involved in articulating the goals outlined as part of Amherst Uprising (3); one student representative from the College Council (1); representation from the employee council and managers' council (2); representation from among faculty whose research and teaching bear directly on the issues (3). It is important that the group not be larger than 15 people (16 including the President).
