Susannah Grant Susannah Grant ’84 was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2015. She is a screenwriter, director and producer. She received Academy Award, Writers Guild and BAFTA nominations for best original screenplay for Erin Brockovich (2000). She wrote or co-wrote the screenplays for Pocahontas, Ever After, 28 Days, In Her Shoes, Charlotte’s Web (based on the book by E.B. White) and The Soloist. In 2007 she wrote and directed Catch and Release.

From 1995 to 1998, Grant was a writer-producer-director on the popular television series Party of Five, which received a Golden Globe Award for Best TV Drama. In 2011 she created and executive-produced A Gifted Man for CBS. Grant wrote and produced Confirmation, a movie for HBO about the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings. She also co-wrote The 5th Wave, released in 2016.


Grant received her B.A. in English from Amherst. She is also a graduate of the American Film Institute’s Center for Advanced Film and Television Studies screenwriting program. She received a 1992 Nicholl Fellowship in screenwriting from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

She is a longtime member of the board of Street Poets Inc., an arts-based violence-prevention program that works with at-risk youths in Los Angeles public schools and juvenile detention and foster care facilities.
