Book & Plow Farm as a New Model for Sustainable, Local Food

Amherst, MA (September 14, 2016) - Check out this article about Amherst College's Book & Plow Farm in The Hampshire Gazette! The farm is working on integration with not only student life, but also with the local community. "The intent is to make local purchasing easier to harness the strengths and resources of different area farms...the biggest question...is 'How do we support local farms, but do that when we can’t afford the prices of local food' To do that, Amherst College is thinking about...an associated economics approach. Farm products would be considered not merely for their food value, but also their relationship to the rest of the system – their educational value, for instance, or the worth of farming techniques that maintain healthy soil on Amherst’s land." College Starts Bike Share Program

Amherst, MA (September 12, 2016) - The Amherst College Bike Share Program has officially launched! This is a student led program that allows Amherst College students to use bicycles for transportation at no cost. The bicycles can be used roughly within the same boundaries as those of the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority.  Read More

Student-Created Climate Policy Course Culminates in UN Summit Visit

Paris, FR (December 11, 2015) - In typical Amherst fashion, five students were interested in a subject and decided to create their own course to learn more. The special topics course “COP21 and Climate Politics” resulted in extensive research on climate policy and a trip to Paris for the biggest UN climate summit in the last 20 years. Read more
