Joseph Spielman, ninety-one, of West Hartford, CT, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at the Hebrew Home and Hospital.  He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, and was formerly married to Hermine (Gutlohn) Spielman.  Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Morris and Rachel (Goldfarb) Spielman.

At Amherst College, Joe majored in economics and belonged to the Lord Jeff Club.  Following his graduation from Amherst in 1935, Joe served his classmates as Class secretary from 1955 to 1959 and also held the position of associate Class agent.  Two of Joe’s brothers, Milton ’38 and Donald ’41, followed in his footsteps to Amherst, as did his son, Jon ’64, and nephew, Robert ’70.

Joe lived most of his life in New Jersey and North Carolina before moving to Connecticut.  Joe was president of Spielman & Co., a drug sundries wholesaler in Clifton, NJ, before he retired.

He leaves his daughter, Jan Rosow; his two sons, Jon Spielman ’64 and Ralph Spielman; his brother, Milton Spielman ’38; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepsons.  He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Spielman ’41, and by one stepson.
