In Memory

The ranks of the Class have been thinned further by the death of Bud Lynch on January 18, 2008.  Bud came to Amherst after graduating from Exeter and became an active member of the Class of 1940, before and after serving as president for five years.

This activity encompassed both his generous pocket and participation in activities at the College such as homecomings and job receptions at which he was a jovial fixture.

Bud followed a familiar path of 1940 members: from college to service in the USNR.  After WWII, he joined the family shoe business in Brockton, MA, where he was among that city’s business leaders.

In 1942, he married “Trudy” Brown of Charleston, WV.  For twenty years, the family lived in Hanover, MA, raising their family of three and affording Bud the opportunity to be active in the affairs of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

After retirement, Bud and Trudy moved to Hilton Head Island, SC.

His survivors include Trudy, to whom he was married for over sixty-five years; daughters, Marcia A. Lynch of Brookline, MA, and Deborah H. Chrisman of Essex, CT; and a son, James F. Lynch, of Wyndmoor, PA.; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
