Roswell W. Phillips '41 died on April 8, 2009.

Roswell Phillips passed away on April 8, 2009. Roswell graduated from Amherst College and Columbia Univ. College of Physicians and Surgeons. While at Amherst, Roswell was a member of Phi Delta Sigma. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. Roswell met his future wife, Ruth, while training in internal medicine at Rhode Island Hospital.

Following WWII, he was chief of medicine at the Providence VA Medical Center. In 1959, he and Ruth moved their family to Spokane, where Roswell served as the chief of medical services at the Spokane VA Medical Center until his retirement in October 1990. He also served as flight surgeon for the Washington State Air National Guard, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in January 1983.

Roswell enjoyed playing tennis, hockey and downhill skiing. Other activities Roswell enjoyed included swimming, sailing, canoeing, white water rafting and tumbling down the Little Spokane River.

Rowell found the most pleasure in his loving family and their accomplishments. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Ruth; his sons, Ken and Fred Phillips; his twin brother, Arthur M. Phillips ’41; and four grandchildren. Roswell was predeceased by his youngest son, Gordon Phillips.
