Clifford S. Burdge, Jr. '44
Clifford S. Burdge, Jr., of Avon, CT, and Windham, VT, husband of Joan (Livingstone) Burdge, died February 9, 2007, at the age of eighty-three at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Derby in 1923, the only child of the late Clifford S. Burdge, Sr. and Charlotte (Fowler) Burdge. He graduated from Bristol High School before coming to Amherst, where he was a member of Phi Psi. Following Amherst, Clifford attended Harvard Law School.
During WWII, he served as an officer in the US Army Air Corps. After the war, he worked at the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company and then joined Reid and Riege law firm in Hartford in 1952. He was a retired partner in the firm’s individual clients group and a former president of the firm.
Cliff was active with The Connecticut Institute for the Blind and The Village for Families and Children, Inc. He was a past president and life fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation, a member of the Connecticut and American Bar Associations, a fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a member of the Estate and Business Planning Council of Hartford.
He also enjoyed memberships in the Hartford Golf Club, the Ekwanok Golf Club in Manchester, VT, Swift’s Inn and the Hartford Canoe Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his ever-faithful, furry, four-legged companion, Gus, who misses him greatly. With his buoyant good nature, generous heart and insightful intelligence, Cliff was adored by his large family and many friends.
