DONALD WOODBURY McNEISH ’45

Don died Aug. 31, 2008, at Notre Dame Long Term Health Center in Worcester, Mass., after a long illness. He was 86. His wife, Barbara, predeceased him. Born and raised in Winthrop, Mass., Don was graduated from Cushing Academy before coming to Amherst in the fall of 1941 where he excelled in sports.

Like so many of his classmates, Don’s college years were interrupted by World War II where he was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force. Upon his return to Amherst and graduation, Don entered the business world working in sales for U.S. Gypsum. He spent most of his career in retail brokerage, first with Breck, McLeish & Nagle and later with Paine Webber from which he retired in 1988 as a vice president.

Don was active in many organizations, including the Acton Baptist Church, the Acton Minutemen, Acton Youth Hockey and the Lions Club. He was an enthusiastic gardener and owned an apple orchard in Hill, N.H., for many years.

He is survived by his children, Robert McNeish of Fayston, Vt.; Elizabeth McNeish of Melbourne, Australia; and Cynthia Draper of Charlton, Mass. His daughter, Kathryn McNeish, predeceased him.

The Class of 1945 extends to Don’s family its sincere condolences.
