Milton A. Kamsler, Jr. '45
Milton A. Kamsler, Jr. died peacefully at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, FL, on March 23, 2007, at the age of eighty-three.
Milt was born in Philadelphia. Prior to entering Amherst in the fall of 1941, he attended the William Penn Charter School. After Amherst, he studied medicine at the Univ. of Pennsylvania where he earned his doctorate and then served a fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.
Milt married Ruth Mae Harris in 1946, and they recently celebrated their sixtieth anniversary. He was a dedicated physician who enjoyed more than thirty years in private practice in Burlingame, CA, as a doctor of internal medicine. During the post-World War II era, he served in the US Army in Wiesbaden and Frankfurt, Germany.
Eventually, disenchantment with governmental interference in private practice of medicine and the doctor-patient relationship motivated Milton to “join the opposition” and complete his medical career as a staff physician at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Poplar Bluffs, MO.
Milt is survived by his wife, Ruth Mae; two sons, J. Scott and his wife, Linda, and Kirk and his wife, Cindy; a daughter, Susan, and her husband, John; as well as five grandchildren.
