William R. Falkin ’45 died February 17, 2010.

Bill Falkin died on Feb. 17, 2010, at his home in Endwell, N.Y. He was 86 years old. He is survived by Susann, his wife of 35 years.
Bill was born in Hartford, Conn., and entered Amherst from Loomis Academy in Windsor, Conn. His years at Amherst, where he was a member of Theta Xi fraternity, were interrupted by World War II, when he served in the U.S. Army. He earned the Silver Star for valor, two Purple Hearts and other meritorious medals. Bill returned to Amherst after the war to complete his studies and graduated with many of his returning classmates.
Bill was a marketing representative for Hartford Insurance Group for 47 years. In 1980, he was honored as Marketing Representative of the Year for the Syracuse region, and one year later was similarly honored by the Northwest Division.
He was an avid sports fan, particularly of baseball, football and hockey. He was also active in promoting youth hockey and baseball. He received the Super Fan Award, with Susann, from the hockey team owners and management. Bill and Susann were also honored with the Bob Carr Community Service Award and several other sports awards.
Bill was active in his church, St. Vincent de Paul in Vestal, N.Y., where he served as eucharistic minister, training youth ushers and serving on the liturgy committee.
The class extends sincere condolences to Susann and to Bill’s many other relatives.
