Bill Kaplan died on Dec. 29, 2011, in Chesterfield, Mo., at the age of 84. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Dec. 1, 1927.

At Amherst, Bill was a member of the Lord Jeff Club. He was also active in cross-country, serving as manager his junior and senior years. He lettered in this sport during his last two years as well. He was part of the Olio staff in his freshman and sophomore years, serving as associate editor in his second year. He was a member of the Christian Association during his freshman and sophomore years, the Outing Club his senior year and the prom committee his junior year.

Bill’s professional career began when he joined the Wolff Shoe Co. He became vice president of sales and manager of the Carmo Shoe Manufacturing Co. from 1949 to1977. He also served as vice president of the Shoe Manufacturers Association.

Bill is survived by his wife, the former Joy Ellen Bloch, whom he married on Sept. 10, 1967.

He will be missed.
