Charley passed away on Jan. 2, 2012, in Burlington, Vt. He was 84.

Graduating from the University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, he immediately joined the U.S. Navy. He served from 1945 to 1946, working on sonar circuitry. He received his bachelor of arts from Amherst and his L.L.B. From Harvard Law School in 1953.

On Nov. 28, 1953, he married the former Julia Hatton Ellis.

He was an attorney at the law firm of Thompson, Hine & Flory in Cleveland from 1953 until his retirement in 1993, being one of the lead attorneys in the probate and tax-planning group. Charley served on the board of directors of the Salvation Army of Cleveland and the Booth Memorial Hospital.

During his career and also in retirement, he was an active traveler, mostly on foot in remote areas. Among other trips, he trekked through Nepal and the high mountain areas of the Himalaya, Peru, New Zealand and Alaska. He trekked to the base camp of Mt. Everest and K2. He climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and from sea level to Angel Falls in Venezuela.

Charles is survived by his sister, Mary Weeks Goodwin of Rutland, Vt.; his children, Katherine Weeks Caldwell of Festoon, Vt.; David A. Weeks of Tucson, Ariz; and Brian A. Weeks of Rochester, Mich.; and four grandchildren.
