In Memory

Phil passed away Jan. 15, 2012, at his home in Little Deer Isle, Maine.

He attended the St. Paul’s School in Concord, N.H., and was a member of the 1950 class at Amherst.

After graduations, he went into the army from 1950 to 1954, serving on active duty in Korea.

In 1953, he married Florence Steffy, who survives him, along with three daughters and eight grandchildren.

He was vice president of the Roxbury Carpet Co. in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Framingham, Mass., developed an industrial park and managed several textile-related businesses.

An avid sailor, he loved cruising on his beautiful ketch, the Amity, particularly in Penobscot Bay in Maine. Additionally, he was an expert skier and was very involved in tennis. He and Flo loved to take riverboat trips in Europe, traveling to the western parks in the United States and also visiting their grandchildren.

He was nicknamed “Count” by his many Amherst friends, due to the “de”spelling in his name, and many funny stories of him have now surfaced in regards to the coeds that were very much impressed by this.  He will be missed.
