CHARLES H. BIERMANN ’52
Chuck Biermann passed away on Jan. 20, 2012, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, Ill. Chuck started his college education at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, but transferred to Amherst, where he was on the track and football teams. He was a member of Chi Psi and majored in economics.
After graduation he became an officer in the army during the Korean War, and in 1954, he married Joan Murphy. Upon his release, he joined the Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. and spent his entire 38-year business career with that firm. When he retired, he was executive vice president of sales and marketing.
Chuck’s two sons recalled how fond their father was of Amherst. He told the boys many stories about his experiences at the Fairest College. Chuck enjoyed golf and tennis and played both sports throughout his lifetime.
Chuck showed tremendous loyalty to Northwestern Steel and Wire and served that company faithfully. He leaves his wife, Joan, two sons and five grandchildren. He will be missed.
