Deceased April 30, 2014
G. Rhoads “Moose” Casey died on April 30. I have fond memories of Moose, a longtime friend and companion. Moose and I played a lot of summer baseball together in the Pocono Mountain League in Pennsylvania after college. I visited him several times during the last months of his illness. He was always a great sport. Birgette and I also saw Moose and his wife, Fritz, on Amelia island, Fla. I will miss him a lot.
For the record, herewith are some details of his life and career. From his birth in 1928, he was a lifetime resident of Easton, Pa. He graduated from the Portsmouth Priory School before entering Amherst. After college he did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania and the Drexel Institute of Technology. During the Korean War he served in the 31st Infantry Regiment.
He spent his entire working life in the steel industry, where he was highly admired and respected. He was sales manager of the Treadwell Corp. and coauthor of the “Steel Castings Handbook.” He was an avid golfer and a member of the National Ski Patrol for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Fritz; sons Kevin and Shawn; and five granddaughters. He will be greatly missed by his family and a vast legion of friends.
