Warren Ramsdell Leonard
Age 72, passed away peacefully in Greenville, DE, on June 1, 2010.
Warren Leonard was a graduate of Amherst College and the School of Advanced International Studies of the Johns Hopkins University. From 1961-1963, he served with the US Army, 1st Armored Division in Fort Hood, Texas. In 1963 he joined the Chase Manhattan Bank in a 3 year Executive Development Program in New York City and became Vice President of the Chase International Investment Corporation.
In 1976 he was promoted to President of the Chase Manhattan Overseas Banking Corporation in Wilmington, Delaware which was the largest holding company subsidiary of the Chase Manhattan Bank N.A. He also was, as a representative of the Chase Manhattan Bank, Chairman of the Board of the Latin American Agribusiness Development Corporation, a consortium of U.S. banks and businesses making agricultural investments in Latin America. He served on the Board of Directors for Chase (USA).
After 33 years with Chase Manhattan Bank, he retired in 1996. He became a Management Consultant to MBNA America. In 1997 he joined the Regional Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and later became Vice Chair. He was a Board Member of the Russian Ballet from 1997-1998; Chairman of the Board of the Delaware Theatre Company from 1998-2000 and Executive Director of the Delaware Symphony from 1998-2001. He served as a Board Member of the Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau.
He was a beloved husband, father and "BaPa". He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Leonard and his daughters, Catherine Leonard Hodder of Jupiter, FL and Laura Leonard Fisher of Arlington, VA, sons-in-law Peter Simmons Hodder and Robert Owens Fisher, and 5 grandchildren Caroline Fisher, John Warren Fisher, Lauren Elizabeth Fisher, Alexandra Elizabeth Hodder and Nicholas Warren Hodder. His sister, Ann Reitz, resides in Cincinnati, OH.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday morning at 10 am at St. Josephs on the Brandywine Catholic Church, 10 Old Church Road in Greenville. Burial will follow in adjoining church cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington.
