In Memory

Dr. Terrence L. Scott died Aug. 15, 2014, at his home in Winchester, Mass.

At Amherst he was a psychology major and a member of Theta Delta Chi. Terry looked back on his time at Amherst as wonderful years of his life, and it was freshman year in James where he found a group of friends and ’71 classmates that he considered brothers: Mike Simko, John Beeson, Jerry Romano, Russ Ryan, Denis Kelly, Steve Dunn, Tom Benge and Joe Rizzo.

After college he received a doctorate in biophysics from the University of Rochester and began his life-long dedication to research science. He worked at Boston Biomedical Research Institute early in his career and then moved on to several small biomedical start-ups, where he worked on developing new treatments for prostate cancer. He retired from his career at Baxter International in order to take care of his wife of 43 years, who had been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Terry loved to laugh and loved to tell a good story. He was a mentor and teacher to the younger scientists and colleagues he worked with. One colleague noted that he was someone you could go to with any question, no matter how trivial, and his advice and knowledge were highly valued. As a father, he was very involved in our lives: singing to us in the bath, coaching our teams and, most importantly, supporting us with unconditional love, no matter what.

Terry is survived by his wife, Marianne, four children and five grandchildren. He was a loving husband and father, a devoted brother and an adored Papa. He will be missed every day and the world is a bit less bright without him in it.
