Kennedy’s Annotated Draft of the Convocation Address

Below is a typed draft of Kennedy’s Oct. 26, 1963 speech, presumably written by Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. (see the initials at the top of the first page of Kennedy’s annotated draft).  The hand-written edits are Kennedy’s own comments and corrections. This draft does not conform precisely to the speech that Kennedy delivered, which was longer. The first part of the delivered speech dealt with educational and economic issues, which, in this typewritten draft, appeared only as a list of statistics (not reproduced here).
