Donating School Supplies

School supplies donated at Campus Challenge drop-off sites are being distributed to Amherst A Better Chance House, Homework House Holyoke, and Reader to Reader, Inc. Of course, you may donate supplies directly to the educational institution or community organization of your choice. Here's a list of commonly-requested school supplies:

  • Backpacks
  • Basic tools: compass; protractor; ruler (preferably clear plastic, metric and standard)
  • Binders , notebooks, organizers, folders, composition books, clipboards: Viewbinders 1”, single-subject and five-subject, spiral – 70 pages or more (wide ruled); page protectors; pocket folders – regular, tabbed and plastic multiple pocket organizers or Trapper Keeper; composition books; clipboards
  • Books - please contact Reader to Reader or your school or neighborhood organization directly to learn how to donate them to best fit their needs. Reader to Reader supports over 500 schools, libraries, shelters and other community groups across the United States. Over 4,500,000 books have been donated. Reader to Reader provide books for all age levels and interests, and books on CD. Visit
  • Electronics: flash drives, calculators - graphing calculator or iPod with graphing calculator app, batteries – AA (4 Packs) and 4 AAA batteries for graphing calculators
  • Glue, tape, scissors: glue sticks, bottles and rubber cement; adhesive tape – clear; scissors, small – round and pointed tip
  • Note cards and adhesive notes: index/note cards - 3x5 index cards or 4 x 6 plain or lined; temporary adhesive notes – often “Post-It-Notes” are requested – plain, small, and large
  • Crayons and markers: crayons (all counts but 24 is most requested); markers, dry erase washable – often “Crayola Classic” requested;  permanent – often “Sharpies” are requested – black fine point and extra fine
  • Paper: construction; copy (by the ream); loose-leaf – wide ruled (by the ream); graph paper (loose or in notebooks)
  • Pencils, pens,  highlighters, erasers: pencil case (plastic 3-ring zipper); pencil sharpener, hand-held; pencils – #2 Yellow; pencils, colored (12 count or less); pens (red, blue and black); highlighters; erasers – pencil top and large pink
  • Personal: calendars and planners; facial tissues; dictionaries; plastic storage bags (gallon, quart, sandwich)
