There were tears, hugs, applause and a standing ovation in the Keefe Campus Center Atrium on April 27 as the Multicultural Resource Center held its inaugural celebration for graduating students of color. The event was titled “Rooted,” to “signify the growth that our seniors have made and will continue to make while also leaving behind deep roots and maintaining a strong foundation in our community.” It featured remarks from MRC director Bulaong Ramiz-Hall, Eva Cordero ’18 and Irisdelia Garcia ’18; an original poem by Sydney Tate ’18; a commemorative pin for each of the 19 seniors who participated; and a fire ceremony.

Describing the support she has found at the MRC, Garcia said, “This community has reminded me, time and time again, that I am loved and I am important.”
