Koby Altman, Assistant Coach
Koby Altman returns to the Amherst College coaching staff for a second year as a graduate assistant coach while enrolled in the University of Massachusetts-Amherst's Sport Management master's program.
One of Altman's main responsibilities for the Amherst basketball program is player development. His individual workouts assisted five graduating seniors ('08) in securing professional contracts to play basketball in Germany.
Altman is also responsible for the team's community outreach efforts. He has a special bond with Project Coach, a program dedicated to encouraging youth leadership in urban communities. The Project trains high school students to coach in sports leagues in the Springfield and Holyoke communities.
Altman was a three year starting point guard for NESCAC rival Middlebury College. He led the team in assists each year during that span before graduating in 2004. A product of Brooklyn, N.Y., he attended Middlebury on a full-tuition scholarship from The Posse Foundation, and graduated with a sociology major and education minor.
After college, Altman spent three years working in commercial real estate in New York City. He coached freshman and varsity basketball at Xavier High School in Manhattan. During the last few summers, Altman worked for Hoop Mountain Basketball Camp, Five-Star Basketball Camp, and numerous New York City High School basketball camps.
