Tropiano Named NESCAC Performer of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College junior Elise Tropiano (Plainview, NY) was named the NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week for her second-place finish at the Williams College Purple Valley Classic this past weekend. Tropiano’s performance helped the Lord Jeffs capture first place as a team.
Tropiano has been a leader for the Amherst women through the first three meets of the season, as she followed her fourth-place finish at the Amherst Invitational by placing third at the UMASS-Dartmouth Invite and second at the Purple Valley Classic. In each of the previous two meets, Tropiano was the first Lord Jeff to cross the finish line.
Amherst had a pair of first-place finishes after three events last season, as this year’s squad has proven to be just as good, if not better, than the impressive 2006 team. Next up for the Jeffs are the Open New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, where they will be competing with runners from Divisions I, II and III. Despite the intense competition, last year’s Amherst team placed second overall, just nine points behind the leader. Tropiano placed 52nd at that event with a time of 18:43.
The Open New England Championships are set to take place Saturday, Oct. 6 at noon.
