Heather Wilson Named NESCAC Performer of the Week
Senior co-captain Heather Wilson is the second Lord Jeff to earn Performer of the Week honors this year.
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior co-captain Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA) was named the NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week for her seventh-place finish at the Open New England Championships this past weekend. Wilson’s performance helped the Lord Jeffs capture second place as a team.
Wilson improved upon last year’s 21st-place finish at the Open New England Championships, as this time around she completed the five-kilometer race in 18 minutes and 24 seconds to place seventh. In a race that featured 44 schools from Divisions I, II and III and nearly 300 runners, Wilson was one of three Amherst runners to finish in the top 12, marking the most top-12 finishers of any school.
Quinnipiac University took home the title by finishing with 72 points, with Amherst close behind at 85 points. The next best finish for a Division III school was Williams College, who placed fifth with 229 points. This is the first time all season that the Amherst women’s team did not finish in first place.
Wilson marks the second member of Amherst’s women’s team to earn the Performer of the Week honor this year. The Lord Jeffs return to action Saturday, Oct. 20 for the Little Three Championships at Wesleyan University.
