Will Yochum Named NESCAC Performer of the Week

Will Yochum

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year Will Yochum (Goleta, CA) was named the NESCAC Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week for his second-place finish in the Little Three Championships held at Wesleyan University. Yochum continued his impressive season with a runner-up time of 25:58.2, making him one of only two runners to complete the 8k race in less than 26 minutes.

Yochum began his rookie campaign with a runner-up finish at the Amherst Invitational, helping the Lord Jeffs kick off the season with a first-place finish. The young Amherst standout returned to action at the Williams College Purple Valley Classic, where he placed sixth overall to help his team finish second to only Williams.

The Open New England Championships featured runners from Divisions I, II and III, but Yochum still managed to stand out, as his time of 26:14 placed him 51st overall, marking the best finish among Division III first-years and the third best finish among all first-years. Yochum’s performance helped the Amherst men capture the best finish in program history, as the Jeffs placed eighth.

The Lord Jeffs return to action Saturday, Oct. 27 for the NESCAC Championships at Williams, where Yochum will be in the running for NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors. Last year, the Amherst women took home the program’s first NESCAC title, while the Amherst men placed third.
