Heather Wilson Earns Second NESCAC Performer of the Week Honor
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior co-captain Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA) was named the NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week for leading the Lord Jeffs to their second consecutive conference championship. Wilson took home the individual title with a time of 21 minutes and 56.67 seconds.
Wilson improved upon her 2006 championship performance by more than 90 seconds, as she placed 11th last fall with a time of 23:30. The NESCAC Championship marks the second consecutive race in which Wilson has placed first, as she won the Little Three title the previous weekend at Wesleyan University.
This marks the second time this year Wilson has been named the NESCAC Performer of the Week and third time the honor has gone to a member of the Amherst women's team.
In six races this year, Wilson has failed to place in the top five just once—a seventh place finish at the Open New England Championships, which featured runners from Divisions I, II and III. The senior co-captain has been instrumental in Amherst’s five first-place finishes, with their lone runner-up finish coming at the Open New England Championships.
Four Amherst women placed in the top 10 at the NESCAC Championships, as the Jeffs finished 40 points ahead of second-place Williams. On the men’s side, Amherst improved upon its third place finish from a year ago to place second this year, just 39 points behind Williams.
The Lord Jeffs return to action Saturday, Nov. 3 for the ECAC Championships, where last year the Amherst men placed third and the Amherst women placed first.
